Desde os primórdios da humanidade é pelo nome que as pessoas são designadas e diferenciadas, também é pelo nome que são conhecidos os homens que se destacaram na história, tanto por seus atos de glória ou de repulsa. Pode-se verificar a importância do nome quando analisamos os regimes de segregação racial, bastando lembrar que os judeus ao adentrarem nos campos de concentração recebiam um número de identificação, ou seja, era desta forma que o regime nazista roubava a identidade de seus prisioneiros. Assim, evidente a necessidade de respeitar-se o direito ao nome como um direito básico a existência humana.

Since the dawn of humanity, people are designated and differentiated by name, it is also by name that men who stood out in history are known, either for their acts of glory or repulsion. The importance of the name can be verified when we analyze the racial segregation regimes, just remembering that the Jews, when entering the concentration camps, received an identification number, that is, this was how the Nazi regime stole the identity of its prisoners. Thus, the need to respect the right to the name as a basic right to human existence is evident.
